The Snyder County Prison is located within the Susquehanna Valley in Pennsylvania approximately 50 miles North of Harrisburg. It is centrally located to the major cities within the State and borders of the surrounding states.
Surrounded by rural farm lands, the institution was renovated and expanded in 1991 and, by county jail standards, it is a relatively modern jail. The Snyder County Prison can house 150 inmates. The institution includes two secure housing areas, and three dormitory type housing units. The institution has a small Segregation unit. The Prison employs approximately 70 staff including a Psychologist, Counselors, Nurse, Para-legal, Kitchen staff, and employs the services of a visiting Doctor.
Presently, the Snyder County Prison houses some 35 county prisoners and nearly 95 Immigration and Naturalization Prisoners as well as five U.S. Marshals and Federal Bureau of Prison inmates. The prison enjoys cooperating with the Immigration and Naturalization Sevice in the housing of INS inmates as well as the U.S. Marshals Service and welcomes these agencies to contact the prison for housing of these prisoners.
